Accommodation in Thailand

  • Luxury Hotels: Thailand has some of the world’s best luxury hotels, and they often come at a fraction of the cost compared to Western destinations. Consider staying at well-known chains like the Four Seasons Bangkok for top-notch service, beautiful surroundings, and excellent amenities.

  • Mid-Range & Budget Options: For budget-friendly stays, check out Lub d Bangkok Siam for a social hostel vibe for a simple, clean space near public transport. Booking.com and Hostelworld are excellent for finding affordable accommodations across the country.

What to Eat in Thailand

  • Street Food: Thailand’s street food scene is legendary. Don’t miss pad thai (stir-fried noodles), som tam (green papaya salad), and mango sticky rice for dessert. Try food stalls at places like Bangkok’s Chatuchak Market.

  • Regional Dishes: Each region has its specialties. In Northern Thailand, try khao soi (a coconut curry noodle soup) in Chiang Mai. In the South, you’ll find more seafood dishes, as well as spicy curries like kaeng tai pla (a fish-based curry).

  • Unique Experiences: Many Thai hotels offer cooking classes—perfect for learning to make dishes like tom yum goong (spicy shrimp soup) yourself! Thai food courts (especially in malls) also serve delicious meals at very affordable prices.

Getting Around Thailand

  • Domestic Flights: For traveling between cities, budget airlines like AirAsia and Nok Air offer cheap domestic flights, especially if booked in advance. Ideal for longer distances, like Bangkok to Chiang Mai.

  • Trains & Buses: Trains are a scenic way to travel and are comfortable for longer journeys, especially overnight routes. For shorter or more economical options, long-distance buses connect most cities, with VIP options for added comfort.

  • Local Transportation: In Bangkok, the BTS Skytrain and MRT subway make city travel easy. Taxis and Grab(Southeast Asia’s version of Uber) are also widely available—just make sure the meter is on!

  • Tuk-Tuks & Songthaews: For a quintessential Thai experience, hop on a tuk-tuk for short rides, though it’s a good idea to agree on the fare first. In smaller towns, songthaews (shared pickup trucks with seating in the back) are an affordable, local way to get around.
