The moment you land in Singapore, you can feel the buzz of the city right away. It’s modern, vibrant, and alive with a mix of cultures that makes it unlike anywhere else. I’ve always had a soft spot for this place. Sure, it’s known for being pricier than its neighbors, but honestly, every cent feels well spent once you dive into everything it has to offer.
I’d been here before with friends, but this time felt different—more special. I was back, not just as a traveler, but sharing the adventure with my husband. What unfolded was a trip filled with delicious food, peaceful green escapes, and plenty of little surprises along the way. Come along with us as we wander through Singapore and experience its flavors, sights, and stories.

Must-See Singapore
Explore Singapore Zoo
If you’re an animal lover, the Singapore Zoo is a must. It’s not just one zoo but four different wildlife parks in one—Singapore Zoo, Jurong Bird Park, River Safari, and the world-famous Night Safari. The Night Safari is a little pricier, but honestly, it’s an experience you won’t forget. If you can, block off an entire day and grab the all-access pass—you’ll definitely get your money’s worth.
Eat and Party at Clarke Quay
Clarke Quay is where Singapore really comes alive at night. This riverside district is lined with restaurants, bars, and clubs that light up after dark. We skipped the heart-racing G-Max reverse bungee (maybe next time!) and instead enjoyed cocktails by the water at Hooters. If you’re in the mood for something more laid-back and romantic, a river cruise is a great way to take in the city lights—whether it’s dinner on a floating restaurant or just hopping on a river taxi.
Wander Through Chinatown
Chinatown is the kind of place you just wander with no agenda. Lose yourself in the maze of narrow streets, stop for a drink in a busy square, and hunt for quirky souvenirs (don’t be shy to haggle a little). The vibe here is completely different from the city’s polished side, and that’s what makes it so much fun.
Be Amazed by Gardens by the Bay
This one’s iconic for a reason. Gardens by the Bay is massive—101 hectares of pure wow-factor. Between the futuristic Supertree Grove and the lush Cloud Forest and Flower Dome, it feels like stepping into another world. We hopped off at Bayfront station, and suddenly we were in the middle of this urban oasis that looks just as magical in the day as it does lit up at night.
Shop (and Snack) at Bugis Junction
If shopping is your thing—or even if you’re just hungry—Bugis Junction won’t disappoint. It’s packed with more than 200 food stalls, and honestly, my stomach is growling just remembering it. Between browsing the shops and grabbing bites to eat, you could easily spend a whole afternoon here.
Soak in the Colors of Little India
Little India is pure sensory overload in the best way. Brightly painted shrines, buzzing streets, fruit stalls, and endless little shops selling everything from trinkets to textiles. Neither of us are big on spicy food, so we skipped the fiery curries, but we couldn’t resist some fresh roti—it was simple, delicious, and totally worth the stop.
Spend Two Days in Sentosa
Sentosa is Singapore’s playground, and if you have the time, set aside two days here. We got a two-day pass (around $120 for both of us) and went all in. Day one was a blur of attractions—Resorts World, the Sea Aquarium, Trick Eye Museum, Adventure Cove, Madame Tussauds, cable cars, Tiger Sky Tower, and some beach time. Day two was all about Universal Studios, where we rode almost everything we could squeeze in. Exhausting? Yes. Fun? Absolutely.
Where to Stay
Accommodation in Singapore can be pricey, but there’s something for every budget. Basic hotel rooms start around $29 a night, while luxury options can easily climb over $900. If you’d rather save on sleep and spend more on food and experiences, hostels and capsule hotels are a great deal—usually $18 to $20, often with free WiFi and breakfast. We stayed at Oxley Hotel near Kallang station, which was affordable and super convenient. No breakfast included, but that didn’t matter—street food stalls nearby had us covered every morning.
Getting Around
Singapore’s public transport system is a dream—efficient, clean, and easy to navigate. Grab a Tourist Pass at the airport (about SGD 30 for four days of unlimited rides). The best part? You get SGD 10 refunded when you return the card.
When the trains shut down after 11 p.m., don’t worry—you’re not stranded. We used Uber a couple of times for late-night adventures, and it was quick and convenient. Honestly, half the fun was just seeing the city lit up after dark.
Food One of the highlights of our Singapore trip was the incredible variety of Asian cuisine available, which we couldn't resist indulging in. I must admit, I think I may have gained some weight during our stay, but it was totally worth it! We explored the streets and tried Chinese dim sum we also had breakfast at 100 Guillemard - it was hands down the best breakfast we had throughout our entire stay. While we did spend quite a bit on food during our time in Singapore, we were thrilled with the array of cheap and delicious options available. Don't miss Nandos!!!!
